After I started hiking Shenzhen in 2020, there was one greenway that impressed me so much that I would meet up with friends to return every year.
It gives the impression of being understated and rich. You can choose to climb the mountains to summit the famous Big and Little Balconies, or go on a wild 18-33 kilometer country trail brushing spree, or walk the flat forest greenways. Either way, it will be very satisfying.
It is the Yangtai Mountain Forest Park! The forest greenway that I love is the "Yangtai Mountain Section" of the Longhua Greenway.
Because of the 0907 heavy rainstorm last year, as well as this year's three-month-long rainy season, the greenway collapsed in many places, and many sections of the road were closed for repairs. Half a year has passed, so far not all the way through. Information on the Internet also has a wide range of opinions, for the greenway can not walk, no one said clearly.
The weather was very hot, so I took advantage of the cool morning to try the classic route of the "Balcony Hill Section" of the Longhua Ring Road on the weekend, i.e. Victory Rescue Square - Guanhu Pavilion - Butterfly Valley --Lengshukeng Reservoir. The total distance was 7 kilometers and took 2.5 hours.
After testing, except for the end of the cold water pit reservoir near the greenway is under repair (detour 100 meters trail can be), can still go smoothly. So if you want to go there, please feel free to go after reading my tips!
After the fall, I plan to walk the whole route of the "Balcony Hill Section" of the Longhua Greenway, i.e. Victory Rescue Square - Longjun Garden, which should be around 17-20 kilometers.
01 About the entrance
Take Subway Line 6 to "Yangtai Shan Dong" Station Exit A. Go straight ahead for about 300 meters and you will see the entrance of Yangtai Shan Park. Please refer to the map below for detailed directions. Note that there are several restrooms and kiosks at the park entrance.
02 About the Greenway
The "Balcony Hill Section" of the Longhua Greenway is all concrete, flat and easy to navigate. The guide is clear, so you don't have to worry about getting lost. Along the way also set up a lot of leisure wooden chairs, easy to sit down at any time when you are tired, very considerate. Only part of the road has shade, so you must be prepared to prevent mosquitoes and sunscreen.
It's summer vacation and a lot of parents take their kids out hiking as well as tracing streams to get closer to nature.
Follow the signs to "Lake Pavilion" and "Half Moon Gallery" (actually, just look for a concrete path).
It is very comfortable to walk through the forest full of greenery.
There is also a restroom on the way, about 2.7km from the Wolong Egg (near the bridge).
When you're tired, just sit down and eat, drink, and rest. Wooden chairs and trash cans, the setup was adequate.
Passing through the repaired section (this small section is densely packed with sandbags, a time-consuming and labor-intensive project indeed)
"Range Terrace" - overlooking the beautiful scenery from a glass observation deck
Keep going and you'll reach the "Valley of the Butterflies".
Remember to go down here, not to the right.
When you arrive at Butterfly Valley, follow the diagram below
The next attraction is the "Autumn Water Terrace". The greenway is still beautiful.
I also saw someone riding it, haha, and it turns out that when they were almost near the Coldwater Pit Reservoir (closed for maintenance), they went back the way they came.
I met two guys coming from the entrance and exit of Lengshukeng Reservoir and told me that the greenway is closed, so I climbed this small slope of about 10 meters up to the slate road in the mountains.
The view from the gravel road overlooking the greenway below is under repair, and there is little water in the reservoir at Coldwater Pit.
03 On exports
At the end of the hundred or so meters of stone path, you will come to a platform. From here, the route has multiple forks (there are many routes after all), so remember to follow the diagram below.
After descending the short stone steps here, you will see the fork in the road towards "Shan Shui Lian Cheng", also known as Long Jun Garden. Remember our target is "Lengshukeng Reservoir", don't get it wrong.
And don't take the Tao Fen Village exit.
In about half an hour, we will reach the end of Lengshukeng Reservoir Dam without any problem!
It's about 1.4 kilometers from Yuanfen Station on Subway Line 6, so you can take a taxi, share a bike, or walk!
