If I were to recommend only one hiking trail with the romance of the mountains and the sea, Eunsang Reservoir would definitely be the first choice in my mind!
Observation deck overlooking Yantian Harbor, dandelion-shaped Wutong Pavilion, green forest parlor, lush ancient trees, cascading waterfalls, and a big breath of Wutong Mountain National Forest Park ......
This route is about 4 kilometers by my count from the Hai Shan MRT station and is very relaxing. You can take the elderly and children, listen to the insects and birds, look at the full of verdure, walk leisurely in the middle of the circling highway, and in about 1-1.5 hours you can reach the mega lawn halfway up the hill overlooking the beauty of the mountains and the sea.
Recently the weather in Shenzhen has been a bit fickle, with sunny days and frequent showers. During this hike up the mountain, I encountered 2 showers, but they stopped soon. Just when I was lamenting the weather, blue sky and white clouds reappeared, and even a small rainbow appeared.
So the scenery is naturally the most beautiful on a sunny day, but it's no less beautiful on a cloudy day. Especially if you bring a drone, the 360-degree view is so stunning that I can only marvel at my uncles' and aunts' photos!
01 About transportation
(i) Walking up the mountain
Take subway line 8 and get off at HaeSan Station. Exit at Exit C and walk according to the map below, the whole journey will take about 1-1.5 hours. I recommend walking up the hill (or taking the bus down) because the scenery along the way is beautiful, and it's a great way to take your time to enjoy the scenery and take pictures.
(ii) Bus to the mountain
Go straight out of Exit B of Haesan Station, cross the street at the first traffic light, and then turn right and go 500 meters to the "Atrium Bay International Hotel". There is a "Mountain and Sea Special Line Eunsang Reservoir" bus that stops at no point in between, and it takes about 10 minutes to get directly to the large lawn (Forest Parlor) halfway up the mountain.
Boarding time: 8:00-16:30 (full or every half hour)
Departure time: 8:30-17:30 (full or every half hour)
Ticket price: 6 RMB/person, special ticket for the old, young and disabled 3 RMB/person
Note: During the descent, 18:00 is actually the last trip, so if you go up in the evening to watch the sunset, you must pay attention to the time. I looked at the parking lot there are still many cars, thought anytime, the result of the face.
02 About the landscape
Hiking Enshang Reservoir is very easy, there are no forks in the road, just follow the road all the way up, there is scenery everywhere. Just bring your own water, bring anti-mosquito liquid would be good, after all, the National Forest Park grass more trees, natural mosquitoes.
After climbing the wooden steps from the entrance, turn right and the road is there!
There are several restrooms and resting booths along the way, so you don't have to worry about anything while walking. Even though it was drizzling, the green color made you feel good.
Remind everyone to pay attention to the first restroom, where there is no one to sell Wutong Mountain Cultural Creation ice cream Oh, photo a great, too know how to operate!
Next to a small waterfall, passersby told me I could walk up to it and get close to the water.
As you continue on, you can take the road and go straight to see the Enshang Waterfall (the largest and most spectacular waterfall). Or take the side path like I did and check out the Yihua Valley and Orchid Creek first.
Then follow the signs to the "Park Entrance", where there is a second restroom and Eunsang Falls is nearby.
The big wide roads are too nice!
Along the way, there are two viewing platforms, one is the "West Harbor Platform" and the other is the "Ferry Platform", you don't need to memorize the names, you will know them when you arrive. The view from the platforms is wonderful!
After the viewing platform, you will soon reach your destination and see the white Sycamore Pavilion that stands like a flying saucer.
Looking across the street to the Forest Parlor
Eunsang Reservoir is tiny, so it's up to you whether you go or not. Anyway, this big lawn and old trees make for a nice walk and play!
If you're not over it, you can also take the Yamano Trail from the cherry blossom forest on the right side of the Great Lawn for about 1.5 hours to Yantian Senior High School halfway up the hill, and the view from the observation deck in front of the school is also stunning. I walked it once in May 2022, the whole thing is about 8 kilometers from Haisan station and took 3 hours.
Frankly speaking, summer is the best time to come to Enshang Reservoir. The scenery is at its best because of the abundance of water at the falls and the lush green grass. The natural yellow and bare fields of fall and winter are much less colorful.
I dodged the rain 2 times and only took the Enshang Reservoir route for about an hour or so, FYI.
