I saw the animation “Big Fish Begonia” many years ago, and I didn't expect to finally go to the setting place - “Chuxi Tulou” in Longyan, Fujian Province, on my post-naked trip around the world.
Compared to other popular Tulou clusters, I prefer the original and non-commercialized nature of Chuxi Tulou, with very few tourists. I was able to enjoy more than ten centuries-old earth buildings by myself, which was quiet and cozy.
The terraces also turn yellow in the fall, don't miss this place when you travel to Fujian.
1️⃣ About Chuxi Tulou
Yongding Tulou, including Chuxi Tulou Cluster, is the gathering place of the Xu family, which has been inscribed on the World Heritage List, and has won the Guinness World Records of “Oldest, Most, Largest and Highest”. The oldest Tulou “Jixinglou” has a history of more than 600 years ❗️ Tickets: 65r
2️⃣ Chuxi Tulou
Spend half a day to stroll through the whole cluster of earth buildings, I recommend these must-visit earth buildings: Jieqinglou, Yuqinglou, Jiaoqinglou, Huajinglou, Gengqinglou, Xijinglou, shaped in round, rectangular and hexagonal, the earth buildings are inhabited by local villagers, with a sense of life and history coexisting.
3️⃣ My Photo Tips
After maintenance and refurbishment, “Jixinglou” is now the main earth building for tourists to visit, and the best shooting location is on the third floor, where you can get the same angle of the Big Fish Haitang (there is no extra charge for going up the stairs).
It is recommended to bring a drone to shoot the whole Tulou cluster, which is very shocking. If you don't have a drone, go to the nearby observation deck and easily capture the excellent view of the Tulou cluster.
There are quite a few lodges and restaurants run by villagers in the village, so if you are not in a hurry, it is recommended to stay for one night and you can see a very beautiful starry sky.
